i was looking thru my google drive and found something i'd written a few years ago. reading it, i remember exactly who each part is about, and exactly what happened with them. and i've realised i haven't moved forward nearly as much as i thought.

you said you saw the face of god
and it laughed back at you

we smile down at you
but hold back the laugher

you said you stood in the shadow of god
and it moved to make you blind

we crouch down next to you
and shelter you from the cold

you said you heard god’s voice
and an earthquake shook your soul

we whisper gently in your ear
and calm your racing heart

you said you touched the skin of god
and the burns will never fade

we extend our open palm
and cool the scars on your hands

you said you looked into the eyes of god
and your mind was never the same

we gaze through your disbelief
and guide you finally to peace

recently, i've been really struggling to put words to all of the things i want or need to talk about. instead of forming ideas, let alone sentences, in my mind, they would just come through as powder-bursts of colours. maelle suggested that i try and figure out the colours to see if that would help bring the words forward, so

The rising sun
Catches the glimmer of your scales.
Flecks of light
Catching in your eyes; the deep green
Of your neighbouring forest.
Your antlers standing strong
As the oaks that thrive through your care.

Nothing so soft
As your hands cupping my face.
Your fingers trace centuries-old maps
Into my skin, down my arms.

As bold as the water of our lake
The soothing tones of your voice
Whisper through my mind, tickling down my spine
Spreading a grip though my lips.

In this home here you created
The warmth of an ever-lasting hearth.
Your skin against mine
And the softness of your smiling lips
Bring an everlasting bloom
Of Himawari— our hearts
Connected.

The setting sun
Finds a halo through your fur.
Though it's nothing
Compared to the gold of your eyes.
Soft blades of grass weave
Through your toes, like your fingers through my hair.

Your cotton tail
Twitches in delight, as a butterfly
Finds a new home on your nose.
But the coolness of the lake
Does nothing to calm my beating heart.

A quiet giggle at the tip of your tongue
Erupts through your lips
And ripples all through your body.
Shoulders that hold mountains
Cause earthquakes.

Tsubaki blush in your cheeks
Even when the Earth is grey
Bursting colour through
My heart— tied to you
Eternally.

it's in your bones
grows like mold, planting roots
long fingers reaching
curling talons around your joints, your lungs

and squeezing

it's in your heart
waves crashing, bark cracking
leaking in through the smallest space
flooding in, making itself comfortable

and drowning

it's in your skin
tracing maps, fracturing porcelain
nails in a coffin
taking control, locking up

and devouring
